Sarah Kesler
Presently: University Teacher
Previously: Communications Director, Project Manager, Media Producer
My expertise spans the areas of communications, leadership, and business.
I'm an award-winning Communications Director, and Management Professional with over fifteen years experience. My passion is developing diverse, high-performing teams in organizations where people are supported to succeed using evidence informed practices. Utilizing design thinking and quality improvement principles, I lead others to deliver creative solutions for complex problems. My graduate studies and subsequence research focused on leadership and workplace culture. A company's culture, like any facet of business, only thrives when it is defined and intentionally managed. Engaged and supported people are a multiplier in organizations and I love doing the work to make that happen.
In my creative and communications work I apply an interdisciplinary approach, developing brands and organizations using consistent storytelling, aesthetic designs and strategic content development to enable authentic engagement and well crafted communications.
About Me
I hold a Master of Business Administration (2015) with a focus on Human Resources from UNBC and am a CPHR candidate. I also completed a Bachelor of Arts in Media Production (RTA) with a minor in English from Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly Ryerson University (2011). During my graduate studies my focus was on People and Culture (previously known as HR) and organizational development. The research of Adam Grant, Brene Brown, Peter Drucker, Edward Deming, John C. Maxwell, Joseph M. Juran, Kaoru Ishikawa and Kate Bowler have influenced my views on management, leadership and navigating change.
In addition to creative design and communications work, I've managed professional continuing education programs and led large scale technology projects. Partners in these projects include the UBC's Faculty of Medicine, Doctors of B.C., the First National Health Authority, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, and committees within the B.C. Ministry of Health. My professional work in the arts and entertainment is broad and includes working on a prime time CBC TV show, as well as producing and editing a radio show and podcast streamed by over
I volunteer as the Technical Director for the Eastside Story Guild, a youth theatre program, volunteer backstage with Pacific Theatre, serve as a board member and chorister in the Jubilate Vocal Ensemble and am a member of the Vancouver Dahlia Society. Annually I act as a judge for SFU's case competitions for the Faculty of Business.
I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee but have yet to master an epic hammer throw.
